Pakistani freelancer on a Karachi apartment balcony at dusk, reading on his phone whether Wise works in Pakistan yet, with the headline Wise in Pakistan: can you use it yet?

Is Wise available in Pakistan in 2026?

Only partly. People abroad can send money through Wise to a personal bank account in Pakistan, and it arrives in rupees. But as of 29 October 2026, Wise's help centre still lists Pakistan among the countries where you can't get USD account details, so you can't use Wise to receive dollars from clients.

Wise in Pakistan is the question every freelancer asks after a client says "can I just Wise you?". The short version: your client can use Wise, but you can't open the part of Wise that matters, the USD account details a client pays into.

That matters because the money involved keeps growing. Pakistani freelancers earned a record $1.76 billion in FY26, up 78% on the year before, according to State Bank data reported by Dawn on 21 July 2026.

Here is where Wise stands for someone living in Pakistan, checked on Wise's own pages on 29 October 2026:

Key takeaways

  • Wise doesn't give USD account details to people with a Pakistan address, as of 29 October 2026.
  • Someone abroad can still send you rupees through Wise, straight to your personal bank account.
  • Wise transfers to Pakistan can't go to business accounts or to Meezan Bank Express and Allied Bank Express accounts.
  • Reports in late August 2026 said Wise accounts were weeks away. Two months on, Wise hasn't announced anything.
  • Your client can pay you from Wise today if you have US account details in your own name.

Can I open a Wise account in Pakistan?

You can sign up, but the features freelancers need are blocked. Wise's help centre says you can't get USD account details if your address is in Pakistan, and personal profiles with a Pakistan address can't open Wise Business. That leaves you without the US routing and account number a client would pay into.

The Wise help article "Can I get USD account details?" lists the addresses that can't get them. Pakistan sits on that list with Bangladesh, Nigeria, Sri Lanka and others. The same page says personal profiles with an address in Pakistan can't add a Wise Business account.

So the usual freelancer setup on Wise, where a US client pays your USD details by ACH and you convert when you like, isn't open to you.

Can I receive money from Wise in Pakistan?

Yes, in rupees. Someone abroad can send money through Wise to any PKR personal bank account in Pakistan, except express accounts. You don't need a Wise account to receive it. It usually arrives the same day once Wise has the money, and the limit is Rs 35,000,000 per transfer.

This is the part of Wise that works, and it suits family transfers well. The rules, from Wise's guide to PKR transfers:

  • Personal accounts only. Wise can't send business payments to PKR. The account must belong to a private individual.
  • No express accounts. Meezan Bank Express and Allied Bank Express accounts don't accept these transfers, so payments to them can be rejected or held.
  • Watch account limits. Transfers are rejected if the recipient has an Asaan account with a Rs 500,000 limit.
  • The sender needs your full name and your 24-character Pakistani account number that starts with PK.

The catch for freelancers is that the money lands as rupees. Your client's dollars are converted before they reach you, at the rate on the day they send. If you'd rather keep earnings in dollars and choose when to convert, rupee payouts don't give you that. We walked through why the rupees often come in lower than expected in why you get fewer rupees than the Google rate.

When is Wise coming to Pakistan?

There is no date. In January 2026, TechJuice reported talks between Wise and the State Bank, with the IT ministry's support. In late August 2026, reports said Wise accounts were expected within weeks. As of 29 October 2026, Wise hasn't announced a Pakistan launch, and its help pages are unchanged.

What has been reported so far:

  • January 2026. TechJuice reported that Wise processes more than $1 billion a year into Pakistan, about 3% of inflows, without being officially live. It said the IT minister had opened channels between Wise and the State Bank, that Wise was in talks about joining Raast, and that the Pakistan Software Export Board's CMO had called making Wise fully operational a priority for 2026.
  • 30 August 2026. NextWallet reported that Wise accounts were expected for Pakistani freelancers within weeks, without naming a source, and said the details would only be clear once there's an official announcement.
  • 29 October 2026. Wise's help centre still lists Pakistan as a country where you can't get USD account details.

None of this has come from Wise. Until Wise announces it, plan your payments around what works today.

Can my client pay me with Wise?

Yes, if you give them US account details in your name. A client with a Wise balance can send USD to any US account that accepts ACH or wire payments. Wise asks for your full name, address, account number, routing number and account type, and the payment reaches you in dollars.

This route is easy to miss. Your client doesn't need you to have Wise. Wise lets its users send USD to "any bank account in the US that accepts ACH payments or wire payments", as its guide to USD transfers puts it. To your client, paying your US account details looks the same as paying a supplier in the US.

Two things to get right before you send your details:

  1. Your name must match. Give the name exactly as it appears on your US account details. If the names don't match, the payment can be sent back.
  2. Ask for USD. US account details receive US dollars. A client sending pounds or euros should convert to USD on their side first.

What can I use instead of Wise in Pakistan?

Pick by who pays you. For US clients and platforms paying by ACH, an app with US account details works best: HandlePay, Elevate Pay and nsave all offer one. Fiverr sellers still need Payoneer. Clients who wire from the UK, Gulf or Europe can pay a bank freelancer account. Then compare what lands in rupees.

A few things the table doesn't show:

  • Upwork's Direct to U.S. Bank pays into a US account that accepts ACH, and the name on it has to match your verified Upwork name.
  • Payoneer charges 1%, with a $1 minimum, to receive into a USD receiving account when USD isn't your local currency.
  • Bank freelancer accounts let you keep $5,000 a month or 50% of export proceeds in dollars, whichever is higher, under State Bank rules. The bank converts the rest.
  • The rate matters more than most fees. At the 28 October interbank rate of about Rs 276.8, a 1% gap on $1,000 is roughly Rs 2,770.

We compared every option in more detail in how to receive USD in Pakistan, and by who pays you in our Payoneer alternative comparison.
